Death of Jean Pormanove: Gabriel Attal offers “screen addiction” tests and “black and white” videos

The former Prime Minister also advocates a "strict ban on social media for children under 15" and a "digital curfew for 15-18 year-olds."
By Le Parisien with AFPThree days after the live death of streamer Jean Pormanove , a man who had been the victim of abuse broadcast on social media for months , Gabriel Attal proposed several measures on Thursday against "screen addiction" among young people, including screening in middle and high schools, or "switching to black and white" of videos after 30 minutes of viewing.
The death on Monday in Contes (Alpes-Maritimes) of forty-year-old Raphaël Graven , known online as Jean Pormanove or JP, has raised many questions about who is responsible for this tragedy.
In addition to the investigation into the "cause of death" opened by the Nice public prosecutor's office, and the criticism - particularly from the far right - aimed at Arcom (the Digital Regulatory Authority), the Australian platform Kick is also being singled out.
As an archetype of these "social networks that have become the new circus games", which make young people "addicted to shocking speeches and ever more violent acts", Gabriel Attal believes in a message on the social network X.
To remedy this, the leader of the Renaissance party first proposes to introduce "two screenings for screen addiction, the first at the entrance to middle school and the second at high school."
The former Prime Minister also advocates a "strict ban on social media for children under 15" and a "digital curfew for 15-18 year-olds," along with a "strong limitation on the time of access to networks" and a "switching of images to black and white after 30 minutes of consecutive use."
"Less color, less dopamine, less addiction," justifies Gabriel Attal, who also wants "a tax on platforms to finance research on screen addiction and mental health."
